Lorena Rivas continues to be a valuable source of information for Tulsa media outlets when it comes to immigration law issues.

One week after Joe Biden signed 17 executive orders into place during his first day of Presidency – several of which reversed Donald Trump’s previous immigration policies – KOTV Channel 6 sought out the highly popular and knowledgeable Tulsa immigration attorney.

The local CBS affiliate interviewed Lorena Rivas from her contemporary Kendall Whittier offices at 2417 E. Admiral Boulevard for a News On 6 LOCAL IMPACT segment titled “President Biden’s Immigration Polices Impact Some Tulsans.”

The story aired Wednesday and highlighted Biden’s proposed changes to immigration policy, specifically Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Biden’s executive order enables DACA recipients – also known as “Dreamers” – to stay in the United States without fear of deportation and apply for permanent citizenship status.

Biden’s revamped immigration policies also propose an eight-year path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants, potentially including some 85,000 in Oklahoma eligible “to apply for the pathway” according to the American Immigration Council.

“They are mostly good people and even though they may have come to the country illegally, by choice they wouldn’t have done that,” Rivas told News On 6 reporter Brooke Griffin. “The immigration system is broken and sometimes there’s no easy way to gain status here.”

Knowledgeable Tulsa Immigration Attorney Rivas a Media Staple

That KOTV Channel 6 paid Lorena Rivas a visit Wednesday is not surprising.

The accomplished immigration attorney is regarded nationally as an authority figure on immigration law, and Tulsa media outlets know.

Since 2016, Rivas has been featured nearly 15 times by some of the state’s most prominent media organizations, making her one of Tulsa’s most visible immigration attorneys. Some of these articles include:

“I’ve been very fortunate to have developed a working relationship with many local news organizations over the years,” Rivas said. “I don’t think a lot of people quite understand the job demands and pressure reporters continually face to generate informative and engaging content. Immigration law is a hot-button issue and there are many newsworthy ands life-changing things happening within the sphere of immigration law.”

As popular as Rivas has become, she is an even more decorated immigration law attorney.

Rivas, who founded Rivas & Associates and The Lawyers of Kendall Whittier in 2020, is a three-time Super Lawyers® selection and was the 2018 Fern Holland Award winner. The latter honor is given to a lawyer who advocates for human rights or the empowerment of women.

Additionally, Rivas closed out the 2019 American Heritage Awards with her impassioned speech titled “This is America.” Rivas has also made multiple trips to Capitol Hill to meet with state and national legislators to discuss and advocate for immigration law reform.

Rivas is optimistic that the immigration law climate will undergo a much-needed overhaul in public opinion and policy with Biden now occupying the Oval Office.
